The Powered-up Power Room, Peeps, and Progress!

Winter blows by quickly...

EDITOR'S NOTE: Okay, so we had some technical difficulties with this edition of our newsletter -- to make a long story short, to fully appreciate this edition you must pretend you're reading it about, oh, six weeks ago or so. It's cold and wintery, you're still getting used to the new Power Room configuration, and spring seems a long, long way away.  If you get in that mindset, this newsletter will make a lot of sense.  If not -- no problem -- the spring newsletter isn't too far behind.  Hahahahaha!  Enjoy!

Happy winter, everyone – can you believe spring is just around the corner?
It’s been a winter whirlwind, but a good winter whirlwind in every way.  The big news for Punch has been our consolidation into the Power Room and if feedback is any indication, I have to ask myself, “Why didn’t we do this sooner?”
Thanks to you all as we made the transition.  I must admit I was a bit nervous about it, but in hindsight, it’s been nothing but positive.  As one of you told me, “I’m no longer scared of the Power Room…it’s been demystified…” I hadn’t realized some of you were a bit intimidated by the Power Room!  Now that it’s been demystified, we’ve seen increased activity and participation in the free weight program, which creates contagious inspiration that helps everyone get the best out of themselves while pushing each other to be their best. A welcome outcome has been unifying our Peeps across the board – much greater cross-pollination in classes and Power Room activities, a greater sense of community and unity, and overall – greater energy at every level.  I thank you all for your patience as we figured things out and your willingness to try new things.
In fact, this month we feature an article shedding light on the benefits of crossing the activities we do in classes with what we do with the free weights and other training options at Punch.  I hope it inspires all to try new things, or at least mix things up a bit.  Routines are great, but so is change, so in this new year (I think we can still call it a new year, right?), please take advantage of all Punch has to offer.
Along the lines of trying new things, we’re featuring Allie Babin this edition in our Punch Peep spotlight – she completed her first weightlifting competition and blew us all away. Meredith and Kym kicked it up a notch, too, so you’ll be able to read more about their accomplishments in this edition.
And to give you an update on my backbreaking (Ha!) Chiropractic studies, I’m actually in the home stretch and beginning to see the light at the end of the scholarly tunnel. To be honest, I can't believe I'm already in my second-to-last semester of school.  I recently took Part Two of the National Board Exam and Part Three is coming up in a few weeks.  In May, I'm taking the Fourth and final part.  This semester, I'm treating patients at the UB Clinic and attending a rotation at Stony Brook Hospital on Long Island, learning how to read MRI's.  It's been a really fun ride so far, but also grueling; I am so grateful, though, since I could have never embarked on this journey without the help of the wonderful trainers and members at Punch.  Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement.
So, I hope you enjoy this Winter issue of our newsletter – thanks for starting the year right with Punch, and let’s keep the momentum going as we head into spring!
